Today a new version of the Lua powered 2D game engine Defold was released.  Defold 1.2.88  contains only a few minor changes and improvements, including Xbox One wired controller support on Mac OS.  They also merged the sign on process for the Defold dashboard and forums, making moving between the two less annoying.  If you are interested in learning more about the Defold engine, be sure to check out our comprehensive tutorial series.

From the release notes:

Defold 1.2.88

We have added a callback argument to particlefx.play, it will be called when a particlefx and its emitters change states.

Please note: There has been major internal changes in how spine components are handled and simulated. This is a proactive change for upcoming features such as "Spine in GUI" and "Animated 3D meshes". Functionality and performance should be on par with previous engine versions, but let us know if you encounter any problems with your current spine models!

Engine

  • DEF-1904 - Added: Callback argument to particlefx.play(url, [emitter_state_cb]).
  • DEF-2101 - Added: Xbox One wired controller support for OSX.
  • DEF-2108 - Fixed: Disabled spine components continued rendering.
  • DEF-1980 - Fixed: Internal refactor of spine component along with minor optimizations.

Service

  • Enabled single sign-on for Defold forum. You will now be able to login with your Defold account, instead of having a separate account for the forum.
  • When working in the editor, you will be logged out if you’re inactive for too long. This time limit has been increased from 1 day to 5 days.
  • You can now voluntarily leave a project from the Team page in the dashboard.
